Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Examining Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Staff Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese-made vehicles, while staff have been instructed to avoid discussing classified matters in all cars.

Security Guidance for Defence Personnel

During a recent interview on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about classified information while travelling in China-made cars.

He stated that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that safety is a issue in all contemporary cars.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret level in any vehicle, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all automobile, to restrict those secret talks in secure locations. This is a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, the minister replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Background

The announcement follows claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to switch off buses and bring disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel has been directing lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

The broader security situation underscores the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in every areas of official operations, including transport usage to communication habits.
